About

Land Acknowledgement

We recognize that due to our online format, we are coming in from different areas of the world. We encourage you to research the original caretakers of the land you reside on, wherever that may be, and what you can do to further protect and peaceably share it’s resources.

York University itself resides on the land known as Tkaronto which has been taken care of by the Anishinabek Nation, the
Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat. It is now home to many First Nation, Inuit and Métis
communities. We acknowledge the current treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This
territory is subject of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and
care for the Great Lakes region.

The treaty asks the following: Take only what you need, leave some for others, and do not dirty the dish.

We thank the original caretakers of our land, and the caretakers along the way, for the benefits we have received and continue to receive from it today.

About the Exhibition

Scenes-by-Design is the York University Theatre Department’s annual exhibition showcasing the work of the Design and
Production area.

Scenes-by-Design offers an insider’s look at the creative work done behind the scenes in class as well as our students personal projects they have been working on. The exhibition features original set designs and maquettes, costumes, props, renderings, drawings and lighting and sound design by students in the production/design area. This year in our online reality, our theme is centered around returning to the places we miss while navigating the virtual world the pandemic has created.

Please enjoy travelling through the different areas of our production and design stream and witnessing the hard work of all our students.
